Ephesians 2:5

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Sin brings death (Genesis 2:17, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.). While Adam and Eve may have thought physical death, it actually meant the spiritual death-death of the relationship with God.

We are able to restore/make alive that relationship with God but there is only one way-through the blood of Christ. God, in His grace and mercy, created a way for us to live again.

We can't do enough good works to revive the relationship. Renewal of life only comes by confession and redemption by Christ's shed blood for us.
