Words of Wisdom Wednesday

Proverbs 2:6
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

If we truly desire wisdom, we must first seek God.

All wisdom comes from Him. It is only through Him that we will gain knowledge and understanding.

Desire to be Heard

(This post was written while I was on vacation)

Psalms 116:1-2 KJV
1 I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. 2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

We all have a desire to be heard and to be known. Sometimes we don't even need someone to fix the situation, but just to listen to us.

Today has been a struggle for me since I woke up. First, I called my husband and he just listened. Later I texted my best friend. Although she didn't have any solutions either, she listened to my concerns, acknowledged my feelings, and gave words of encouragement.

Throughout the morning I spent time in prayer on the issue. I cried out to God to help me understand.

Then, He led me to Psalm 116. The very first two verses comforted my soul. Did he give me an answer? No, but He reminded me that He hears me and has inclined his ear to me.

What peace came over my soul!

Words of Wisdom Wednesday

It has been a while since I have done Words of Wisdom Wednesdays, but I am going to start up again. I take a verse (or two) from Proverbs and share my thoughts.

Proverbs 1:8
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

I remember my parents telling me to just trust their advice because they had learned from their mistakes and htey didn't want me to have to make the same mistakes. I have also found myself telling my children the same thing.

It would be wise to take our parents' advice for that reason, but also because God put them in authority over us and tells us to listen and obey.

The Hebrew word "hear" means more than just listen; it means to apply it and obey it. We are capable of physically hearing something but not "hearing" it in our heart. We need to hear before we will apply it (or at least attempt to apply it).

Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

The Power of God

In the King James Version of the Bible, the words, "the power of God" are only used eleven times. Most of the time, it is directly speaking of the power God holds; however, a few times it speaks directly of Christ (in the other instances it could be interpreted as both the power He holds as well as Christ himself). What is interesting, is that twice, it specifically calls the gospel the power of God.

The gospel message, Christ coming to earth, living a sinless life, dying for our sins, and rising again, IS the power of God!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

1 Corinthians1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

What this makes me realize is that the gospel message is not just for unbelievers. Yes, unbelievers need to hear the good news of the gospel, but so do believers.

I don't know about you, but I desire to experience the power of God!

I just started reading A Gospel Primer for Christians by Milton Vincent (which is where I first read about the power of God). I have a feeling this book is going to be a life changer for me!

I purchased my copy of A Gospel Primer for Christians at Thriftbooks for less than $4. You can get 15% off your first order by using the link. Thriftbooks offer many great books at great prices.
