Mercy on Us

The World may fall apart around us, but God will continue to be with us. He will have mercy on those who follow Him!

A Sound Heart

Proverbs 14
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

What exactly does "sound" mean? I looked it up in my concordance and saw that it means "content"-contentment is life to the flesh.

God has been dealing with me on the issue of contentment for a time. While i am content for the most part, I do still struggle with it sometimes.

When I am not content with something in my life, it makes me miserable and then it usually affects those around me.

The opposite of contentment is envy. When we focus on what others have, we begin to  experience self-pity and resentment. Neither of those bring glory to God and only drag us down. If we truly look at the blessings God has bestowed on us, we should easily find contentment. Focusing on that will bring glory to God and encouragement to those around us.

High Places

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

Psalms 92:1 -2
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

God gives us so much more than we deserve! He offers us grace and mercy and sent His Son to die for our transgressions and He did this know that not all of us would accept His great Gift.

That alone is reason to give thanks, but we have many more reasons to give thanks. Every day we see His blessings--the fact that we ope n our eyes and breathe, the smile of a small child, flowers growing. We can see His goodness all around us even when we are experiencing hardships. Even if we feel the world is falling apart around us or that nothing is going right, God will take care of us! He will set us on high places.

The Way We Think

This is so important to remember in all facets of life and it applies to how we think about our children as well.

True Love

Leviticus 19:17
Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

This scripture goes along with yesterday's post--if you love, you WILL rebuke.

Many people say it isn't up to us to judge others, but God does tell us to judge righteously.

Leviticus 19:15
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

If we truly love our neighbor as ourselves . . .

Matthew 22:39
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

. . . then we will desire them to be in a right relationship with the Lord. There may be occasion for us to approach someone and rebuke their behavior. The important thing to remember is to rebuke with love and make sure it is in line with God's commands (righteous judgement).

If we allow our neighbor to continue in sin because we fear insulting them, then do we truly love them?

Chastening IS Love!

Proverbs 13:24
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

There are some people who believe that it is better to be their child's friend than to always be disciplining him. Scripture tells us the opposite--you show love when you discipline!

When you discipline, you are teaching your child you care more about their future than if they like you in the present. You want them to become a man (or woman) of God and follow His commandments. Discipline isn't always easy and is never fun, but it is imperative to correct a child now before something becomes a habit or he becomes insensitive to it.

Show your child love by chastening him!

Nice Jesus

People always talk about how 'God is love', but they often forget about how sometimes He showed His love in ways that most people wouldn't see as love.
