Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
When there is hatred/anger in someone's heart, they will retaliate against anyone who has caused them grief (real or perceived). However, when someone is driven by love, they choose not to retaliate, thereby stopping the strife and covering the existent strife. Just as Christ stood silent against His accusers, so should we choose to stand silent at times.
