There is that scattereth, and yet increseth; and there is that witholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
This makes me think of gardening. A gardener must scatter seeds to see an increase in produce. Then the seed itself must cease being a seed (die to self) in order to see an increase. The same is true for us. We must give of ourselves and our possessions in order to see an increase. If we don't share of ourselves, we will be poor in spirit as well as poor in friends and love.
