What is a friend?
A friend is someone you want to share things with. You want to spend time with a friend. You share confidences with a friend. A friend is there when you need him. A friend will comfort and give you advice. A friend will lend help when needed.
Aren't all these things what you should be doing with your spouse?
While we will always have our personal friends, the marriage bond will only strengthen if you also add the bond of friendship.
