Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all they getting get understanding. 4:7
This has been a favorite verse of mine for a long time (in addition to the previous two verses: Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.)
What stood out to me today was the spelling of "principal". Looking back at the Hebrew, it means: first, most important, chief. With those definition, I would have guessed it would have been spelled "-ple"; however, "-pal" fits well because we need to make wisdom our friend. We need to seek it as a friend. We need to cherish its words as we would cherish the words of a friend. We need to trust it as we would a friend.
